This algorithm tested on more than 10,000 patients worldwide takes into account the troponin level in the blood but also other key patient data that could influence this level. Thus, the algorithm estimated with 99.6% accuracy whether the patient had a heart attack or not, giving much better results than the current tests used in hospitals.

Such an algorithm could be very useful in the rapid and efficient diagnosis of heart attacks. Patients who had a high likelihood of a heart attack using this algorithm could be kept under further medical observation, and those who did not have a high likelihood of a heart attack could be sent home without any problems.

Artificial intelligence can identify abnormal heart rhythms

Another groundbreaking study in AI medicine is led by a group of researchers at the Smidt Heart Institute in Los Angeles, USA.

The algorithm designed by the researchers was able to effectively detect cases of cardiac arrhythmia in patients who had no physical symptoms. This AI algorithm analysed the electrocardiograms of more than 1 million patients from 1 January 1987 to 31 December 2022, and was able to predict cases of atrial fibrillation with a high degree of accuracy up to 31 days before they physically manifest.
