Be well hydrated for a strong immune system

Especially now, during the COVID-19 pandemic, when we are mostly divorced from our usual routines, it is extremely important to remember that we need to be properly hydrated. The immune system depends very much on the nutrients in the bloodstream, which is largely made up of water. If we don’t have enough water in the body, nutrients won’t be properly transported to the organs. Hydration, diet and sleep are essential components of a healthy immune system.

Our bodyguard that protects us against infections, i.e. the immune system, is made up of several components that include cells, tissues and organs. One of these organs is the skin, which has a protective role. When the skin barrier is affected, it can become a gateway for bacteria and viruses.

In recent months we have come to understand more and more how vulnerable we are, especially from a biological standpoint. Basically, we are biological machines, which can lose the chance to choose their own destiny, if we do not follow certain rules for our health. And if we think about it, most of the rules are not hard to follow. More important than making predictions about COVID is to follow rules.

The cheapest and most handy medicine recommended for the immune system is water. The doctors’ recommendation for hydration is 35 ml/kg body weight for men and 30 ml/kg body weight for women. Another important rule: for each cup of coffee consumed – you should drink one cup of water, and for each alcoholic beverage, another 2 cups of water. You can also start your day with a cup of hot lemon water.
